Child Support
Child support decisions are critical as they deal with your child's current and future wellbeing, something that is of utmost importance to parents. Generally, child support issues are settled by agreement based upon the Georgia child support guidelines, which provide detailed instructions on calculating child support. To help families determine child support amounts, Georgia provides child support calculators based on the state guidelines.

Child support is based on a number of factors, including: gross income of each parent, the number of minor children each parent is responsible for, and the expenses incurred in raising the child or children including health insurance, dental insurance and daycare and/or after-school care costs. Depending on your specific situation, you may be able to request that certain expenses be factored in as well, such as extraordinary expenses of the child or a particular financial burden that prevents you from being able to satisfy your child support obligations.
As your situation will most likely change over time - job changes of either parent, increased or decreased daycare expenses, changes in the amount of parenting time - it is a good idea to have your child support reviewed to determine if changes are necessary. Moreover, if either parent petitions the court, it may be possible for the support amount to be modified at a later date.
